Joe was pretty excited to get three kites up in the air--Q's butterfly kite, which flies in almost any wind; the diamond kite, which takes some effort and wind; and the rocket kite, which also takes a good bit of wind. Scott and the kids would get the kite up and flying and then stick the handle of the string into the ground to go get another kite up into the air. They were having a great time.

Q was more inclined to sit in her camp chair and have Smoky as her lap kitty. Funny story about him.... A couple people stopped by the house yesterday to ask about leasing our pastures. The wife saw Smoky and mentioned her mom (who lives just south of us) used to have a cat like that, but he got out awhile back. She said it was some kind of flair point Siamese, or something like that (I can't remember exactly), that they bred a whole litter, and that Smoky looks JUST like Merlin (her mom's cat).
She asked to see him up close, and (wtf) our Smoky is her mom's Merlin; she recognized the white spot on his lip and the crystal blue crossed eyes. I guess he used to be an inside cat when he was a kitten but got out when somebody was housesitting. J and my niece Molly heard him yapping in the hedgerow in late October or early November, and even then he was a kitten, kind of straggly and homeless looking. We fed him after he hung around a couple of days, and in no time, he wasn't skinny. Here is his first pic at our house last fall. (CUTE!)

Here he is now, the epitome of lap kitty. He seems happy at our house, and we love him. He sure isn't going back to being Merlin. Nope.
